on tuesday, october 25th, i'll be at tonic with peter evans' new quartet. we used to be called "ivan guck" but i don't know if that's still our name. regardless, the group includes kevin shea and mary halvorson performing the recent works of peter evans. we start at 11PM. see you there!!

Upcoming FONT Shows!!!!

on monday, august 22nd, i'll be playing with a new quartet led by trumpeter peter evans and including mary halvorson and kevin shea. we'll be playing a set of music composed by peter in the hyper-crazy jazz category as part of the FONT festival.
then, on tuesday the 23rd the new york trumpet ensemble will be performing in a new expanded version. both shows cost $10 (A SPECTACULAR VALUE!!!) and start at 8 PM. details below:

Quartet Gig!!!

on monday, august 1, i'll be performing at the 55 bar with the jon lundbom/bryan murray quartet (also featuring danny fischer on drums). we'll be playing from 6:30 to 9, so come on out to hear some great modern jazz. for those of you familiar with my various projects, this one promises to be jazzier than usual. hey hey hey!!! the music is great (by jon and bryan) and the evening will be a lot of fun. i assume there's a modest cover, but i'm not privy to that information at this time. see you there!!!!

Lucky Cat

on monday, july 11, i'll be performing at the lucky cat with jessica pavone's newest creation. the show starts at 8, and i don't think there is a cover (maybe a small one...i donno) i'm also kinda hazy on the location of the lucky cat, but i think it's on grand st. in williamsburg...and google agrees...245 grand st. it is. come on out for a night of great music.

MOPDTK at CBGB....one last time

Mostly other people...etc. will be performing for one final show at CB's lounge on wed. july 6. CB's freestyle series is ending at the end of july, so come one out the this great venue to hear an entire night of music for just $10!!!!!

The Language Of

i'll ve recording on wednesday, may 18 with charle evans and the language of. this will be the final run with drummer jan roth, who i moving back to germany. those of you who heard last week's pourhouse gig heard his phenomenal playing, and this will complete his current tenure with the band. we all wish him well, and invite you to check out the music when it gets released.

busy week

this week i'm all over the place!
monday at niagra with jan, latham and company playing some standards....fun-like....then tuesday im at queens college with some members of ICE playing some new music concerts at 5 and 7:30.....wednesday i'll be at the pour house with charle evans and the language of (jan roth's last US appearance) with peter evans, we start at 9 or so......thursday is the st. mary's high school chorus concert, which i will be conducting with the help of natasha ullman on the piano.....i think i'm doing something friday, but it escapes me at the moment. come on out to some gigs!!!!!

Niagra!!!!!!!!!

On monday, may 2, i'll be playing a double bill at niagra. the first set is with charle evans and the language of (feat. charle on baritone sax, peter evans on trumpet, mop, and jan roth on drums)....and the second set is Mostly Other People Do the Killing (see below). we start at 9, the cover is $5, and niagra is on the corner of 7th and Ave. A in the east village. see you there!!!!

on wednesday, march 23, i'll be playing at the pour house with peter evans, sam kulik, and brandon seabrook. we'll be performing our versions of jazz standards from the early 20th century. the pour house is on metropolitan at the corner of humboldt in williamsburg. take the L train to met. the show starts at 9. see you there!!!

i'll be out of town the week of the 21st to record some new tracks with tim roark. a couple of summers ago i recorded with him in the band 'rollaway.' i'm really looking foreward to this project, so stay tuned for updates.

New York Trumpets at Tonic

New York Trumpet Ensemble

the NYTE is now an ensemble in residence at holy trinity church, and will be performing regular concerts there starting this month. our first show will be on jan. 24th, our first show with dave taylor on bass trombone. i'll put a more specific post up as the date gets nearer.

sorry i've been lazy with this thing as of late...here's the recent news to catch you up.
last month i played 3 gigs with the Christian Pincock quintet, and again earlier this month at kavehaz. december also saw the new york trumpet ensemble return to action at the lucky cat in brooklyn. my quartet recorded a tv show for the floral park public access channel, and i've been doing a bunch of freelance stuff. i'll be more consistent with the blog from now on...check it out.
