Upcoming FONT Shows!!!!

on monday, august 22nd, i'll be playing with a new quartet led by trumpeter peter evans and including mary halvorson and kevin shea. we'll be playing a set of music composed by peter in the hyper-crazy jazz category as part of the FONT festival.
then, on tuesday the 23rd the new york trumpet ensemble will be performing in a new expanded version. both shows cost $10 (A SPECTACULAR VALUE!!!) and start at 8 PM. details below:

Quartet Gig!!!

on monday, august 1, i'll be performing at the 55 bar with the jon lundbom/bryan murray quartet (also featuring danny fischer on drums). we'll be playing from 6:30 to 9, so come on out to hear some great modern jazz. for those of you familiar with my various projects, this one promises to be jazzier than usual. hey hey hey!!! the music is great (by jon and bryan) and the evening will be a lot of fun. i assume there's a modest cover, but i'm not privy to that information at this time. see you there!!!!

MOPDTK at last time

i'll ve recording on wednesday, may 18 with charle evans and the language of. this will be the final run with drummer jan roth, who i moving back to germany. those of you who heard last week's pourhouse gig heard his phenomenal playing, and this will complete his current tenure with the band. we all wish him well, and invite you to check out the music when it gets released.

busy week

this week i'm all over the place!
monday at niagra with jan, latham and company playing some tuesday im at queens college with some members of ICE playing some new music concerts at 5 and 7:30.....wednesday i'll be at the pour house with charle evans and the language of (jan roth's last US appearance) with peter evans, we start at 9 or so......thursday is the st. mary's high school chorus concert, which i will be conducting with the help of natasha ullman on the piano.....i think i'm doing something friday, but it escapes me at the moment. come on out to some gigs!!!!!

on wednesday, march 23, i'll be playing at the pour house with peter evans, sam kulik, and brandon seabrook. we'll be performing our versions of jazz standards from the early 20th century. the pour house is on metropolitan at the corner of humboldt in williamsburg. take the L train to met. the show starts at 9. see you there!!!

on sunday, jan. 30th, i'll be performing at CB's freestyle sundays with jon lundbom and big 5 chord. the band includes jon irabagon, andrew bain, brian murraly, and, of course jon and myself. it should be an amazing night, as the other groups on the bill feature mark helias, tim berne, drew gress and others. we're starting at 7 PM, so come on out for a great night of avant-garde (does that mean anything anymore) jazz at freestyle sundays!!!! New York Trumpet Ensemble

the NYTE is now an ensemble in residence at holy trinity church, and will be performing regular concerts there starting this month. our first show will be on jan. 24th, our first show with dave taylor on bass trombone. i'll put a more specific post up as the date gets nearer.

Recent History

sorry i've been lazy with this thing as of's the recent news to catch you up.
last month i played 3 gigs with the Christian Pincock quintet, and again earlier this month at kavehaz. december also saw the new york trumpet ensemble return to action at the lucky cat in brooklyn. my quartet recorded a tv show for the floral park public access channel, and i've been doing a bunch of freelance stuff. i'll be more consistent with the blog from now on...check it out.
